And now, I have a confession to make... Something I'm not too proud of.... Okay, here goes. Over this winter, I found that I hadn't done any client work in a while, and so I decided to - I decided to participate in one of those Designer contest websites, where I do tryout work along with several other artists, in the hopes of landing some paying gig. I know, I know, it doesn't exactly strengthen one's position to do this kind of thing, but my reasoning was that maybe I was getting a little self indulgent, only working for myself and not honing my skills against the expectations of a potential client. A little art boot camp was in order, and boot camp it has been indeed.
Anyways I came away from the experience with empty pockets but much richer, I believe, in my skill level than before. I've posted some of these attempts below, with each image linked to the contests so that you can see who the winner was, and judge for yourself, did I deserve to be a:
